Can COVID-19 spread through air?

COVID-19 is spreading like wildfire in India making our country one of the worst-hit nations affected by the deadly virus.

The principal mode of transmission of SARS-CoV-2 remains close contact with an infected person and through the nose, mouth or eyes, according to health agencies.

SARS-CoV-2 virus that causes Covid-19 is predominantly transmitted through air, according to a new assessment carried in the medical journal Lancet has said. It added that public health measures that fail to treat the virus as predominantly airborne leave people unprotected and allow the virus to spread.

Experts suggest that the spread of COVID-19 is happening more indoor than outdoor. Yes, they have further stated that if the ventilation is there then the probability of contracting the disease is lesser.

PPT kits in hospitals which mostly the doctor uses are failing to protect them from the virus. This again proves that corona can be spread through air.

Airborne transmission:

According to scientists, the COVID-19 virus has been found to be staying in the air for about 3 hours. This research was conducted through taking the samples from near the cars and rooms of the infected patients.

COVID-19 cases infected through air have also been reported after the patients made use of air filters. This is one more reason for COVID-19 spread.

Things to keep in mind:

1. Wear a mask while stepping out & maintain social distancing:

Now more than ever, it is absolutely necessary that you always wear a face mask when you are out of the house.

2. Do not go out unless absolutely necessary:

Older adults and people with serious chronic medical conditions are at higher risk of serious illness.

3.Maintain Hygiene:

Wash your hands with soap or water/ alcohol-based sanitizer frequently. Avoid touching your nose, mouth, or eyes. Make sure that you cover your nose and mouth while sneezing or coughing.

4.Keep track of your health and monitor symptoms (if any):

The virus that causes COVID-19 can lead to some flu-like symptoms, such as aches, fever, and cough. If you experience any of these symptoms, you should get in touch with your doctor immediately.
